Comprehensive Medical Assessments for Your Chinese Visa Application
If you are applying for a visa to China from the UK, you may need to undergo a medical examination depending on the type of visa you are applying for. This is generally required for applicants seeking long-term visas (e.g., work, student, or family reunion visas), particularly if you are staying in China for more than 180 days.
Who Needs to Undergo a Visa Medical?
- Work (Z) Visa: Required for those applying to work in China.
- Long-term Student (X1) Visa: Necessary for students staying over 180 days.
- Family Reunion (Q1) Visa: For those joining family members for a long-term stay.
- Other Long-term Visas: Any visa application for a stay exceeding 180 days will likely require a medical check-up.
What Does the Medical Examination Involve?
- General medical examination (including medical history, Physical examination, height, weight, and blood pressure)
- Blood tests: HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B and C, syphilis, Full Blood Count (FBC), ESR, and blood group test
- ECG
- Chest X-ray: To screen for tuberculosis
- Urine and stool tests: To check for infections or diseases
Where Can I Get the Medical Examination Done in the UK?
The medical examination for a China visa must be conducted at an authorized medical center. In the UK, Your Excellent Health Service (YEHS) at 25 Harley Street, London, is an approved provider.
How Much Does the Medical Cost?
- China Visa Medical: £420
- Blood Group Test (if required) (Additional £65.00)
This price includes:
- General Medical Examination
- Medical History
- ECG
- HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, FBC and ESR blood tests
- Chest X-Ray
If you do not know the blood group there is an additional £65.00 charge.

How Long Does the Medical Examination Take?
The exam typically takes 60 – 90 minutes. Results are usually available within 3–7 days, depending on the medical center. Plan ahead, as you will need to submit your results with your visa application.

- Complete all required paperwork and bring necessary documents (passport, visa application form, photographs, etc.)
- Additional tests may be required depending on your medical history or travel plans.
- Bring along the below to your appointment your Photo ID (International Passport) and Proof of Blood Group (If you have this information)
