What is an ENG 1 Medical?
The ENG 1 medical is a statutory health assessment required for seafarers and those working at sea. It ensures you are fit for duty in accordance with UK maritime regulations. Eligibility & What to Bring
- a discharge book, drivers license, passport or other certified photographic proof of identity
- Any current medication
- Glasses/contact lenses if worn plus spares
- the last ENG 1 or equivalent overseas certificate (unless it is a first appointment)
- Recent letters, discharge notes and any relevant medical records (if available)
- Please arrive 10 minutes early
- You must avoid loud noises for 16 hours prior to your hearing test

- General physical exam
- Results and certificates usually provided immediately after your visit
- The examination typically takes between 30 to 45 minutes.
Physical Examination
- A full physical examination will be conducted, requiring applicants to undress to their underwear.
- Please note you may request a female doctor but this is subject to availability and we are unable to make any arrangements other than our routine doctor bookings.
- You may request a chaperone to be present at your physical examination.
- We will be providing a private changing room or a curtained-off area. Gowns or sheets will be provided to clients on request.

How do I replace a missing, stolen, damaged or destroyed ENG 1 certificate?
You may explain the circumstances and request a replacement via email to yehs@yourexcellenthealth.org.
The approved doctor will review your request and decide whether to:
re-examine the seafarer and issue a new certificate valid from the date of examination; or
issue a new certificate bearing the exact details of the missing certificate.
An administrative fee of £50 applies for re-issue of a duplicate certificate, without examination.
Please note the approved doctor can only duplicate a certificate that he issued in the first instance.
