Have You Received a Letter from the Australian or New Zealand Government About Further Medical Action?
 

If you have received a letter from the Australian or New Zealand immigration authorities asking you to complete further tests, specialist reviews, or additional medical information, don’t worry — this is common and can usually be resolved with the right support. This page explains what the letter means, what you should do next, and how we can help. 

Read the Letter Carefully

Please read your letter in full and make a note of: :

  • The country (Australia or New Zealand)
  • The reason further action is required (for example: blood test result, chest X‑ray finding, existing health condition, specialist report requested)
  • Any deadlines or expiry dates mentioned in the letter
  • Any specific instructions about which tests or specialists are required
Keep the letter (and any attachments) safe. We will need to see a clear copy.

  • Your HAP ID / NZER / NZHR reference number

Booking Your Appointment

Depending on what the government has requested, you may need: .
  • Additional blood tests or urine tests
  • A repeat or more detailed chest X‑ray
  • specialist consultation (for example: cardiology, respiratory, mental health, infectious diseases, orthopaedics)
  • A detailed medical report about an existing health condition

We will explain:

  • Whether this can be done in one visit or may require more than one appointment
  • Whether the appointment can be remote (video/telephone) or must be face‑to‑face
  • What you need to bring with you (e.g. glasses, medication list, hospital letters, previous test results)

Please do not delay booking. Immigration letters usually have strict deadlines, and missing these can affect your visa application.

Specialist Consultation – Private

We are able to refer you to private specialists to if you a require this.
 
  • specialist consultation may include for example: cardiology, respiratory, mental health, infectious diseases, orthopaedics
  • You would have to contact the specialist or the secretary directly to check for availability
  • The specialist acts as an independent practitioner and may choose to carry out additional tests to draw a conclusion
  • All private specialists will charge a fee for their consultation and/or testing.
  • All payments or invoicing are between you and the specialist directly
  • The specialist will provide you a medical report which we will send to the government on your behalf.

Specialist Consultation – NHS

You may see a specialist via the NHS as NHS letters are acceptable.
You will need make a request via your local GP.
 

During Your Appointment

At your appointment, the specialist will:
  • Review the letter from the Australian or New Zealand authorities
  • Take a full medical history and examine you if required
  • Arrange any tests requested (or refer you to an appropriate facility)
  • Provide or coordinate the specialist report in the format requested by the immigration authorities

You are welcome to enquire from the specialist: 

  • What each test is for
  • Any risks / complications of any tests are

After Your Appointment – Sending Results

In most cases, results and reports must be sent directly to the immigration authorities or uploaded via their approved system (eMedical).
Please ensure to send us a copy of your report and we will Submit this for you.
 

If You Are Unsure What the Letter Means

If you are not sure what the letter is asking for, please:
  • Take a clear photo or scan of the entire letter
  • Email it to us with your full namedate of birth, and contact number (yehs@yourexcellenthealth.org)
  • Put “Australia/NZ further medical action – Clarification needed” in the subject line

Urgent or Time‑Sensitive Cases

If your letter states a short deadline or you are worried about time:
  • Please contact us as soon as possible by phone
  • Tell us the exact deadline date mentioned in the letter
  • Let us know if you have already had any tests or assessments elsewhere

We will do our best to offer you an appointment within the required timeframe, subject to availability.

Important Notes

  • We are independent medical practitioners and cannot influence the final immigration decision.
  • Our role is to provide accurate, professional medical information and reports to help the authorities make their decision.
  • Having a medical condition does not automatically mean your visa will be refused. Many applicants with health conditions are granted visas once the required information is provided.
